There's a giant robot in the shape of a man, a small space ship and a pyramid - none of them can remember their previous lives but they know they used to be humans. ![]() The story is about three constructs sent by the "Instrumentality of Mankind" (a galaxy wide relatively benign dictatorship) to shock and awe a potentially dangerous planet that has been discovered by a pair of telepaths, whose story makes up the previous 3/4s of the book. ![]() I just thought it might be a nod towards it. OH! I want to make it clear I'm not suggesting you were copying the idea because if you read the story you'll see it goes in a very different direction. I mean, you could Google "Three to a Given Star" and there's a link to the story, but I've no idea how legit it is. You can get the book on Kindle:īut as those reviews would suggest, not for everyone. I can summarize the plot of the story I was reminded of here if you don't want to track a copy down - and unless you're into 60s SF I can't see why you would. I'm an atheist but I like his writing so, like my man CS Lewis, I let it slide. Quest of the Three Worlds is a fairly trippy read with a bunch of Christian symbolism and allusions. Cordwainer Smith (actually a pseudonym) was a pretty interesting guy but he didn't write much. Quest of the Three Worlds - it's a collection of four novellas and it's the last that reminded me of your plot. ![]()
